For the last five years, I’ve traveled to the host city of the Super Bowl. The reason I went was because Super Bowl weekend brings in almost half a billion dollars to whichever location hosts the big game. I went to reap the monetary benefits that came from that much capital in one location.
Over the years, I worked in a variety of capacities, but one thing was always true that characters from all over the country came to the big game. Every time I would go I would come across some of the most unique personalities and people who were out there specifically to get a piece of the action. I made friends, built connections, talked with players, and even met the owners of some of the teams. It has been quite a journey.
I’ve always hosted events as an emcee. For almost a decade I was a stand up comedian and performed all around the United States. I feel that I’m a better emcee than a comedian because I genuinely enjoy talking and hanging out with my audience. I’m also a master of ceremonies and have commenced weddings, bar-mitzvahs, corporate events, launch parties, political rallies, and every other thing under the sun.
With all this experience, I decided to do a talk show this past year. We’ve entitled it, “First Weekend of February” as every year that is when the game is played. I hired an assistant, a lead camera person, and a sound engineer. We set up a meeting with documentarian filmmaker Jim Brown and got advice on how to go about filming a story of this magnitude. We met in Chicago and headed to Minneapolis, Minnesota where the fifty second bowl occurred. We worked hard, barely slept, got written up by Minnesota Public Radio and were able to get some great interviews.
We still have a long ways to go in the editing process but we’ve been able to drum up some great support. We are scheduled to finish the project by the end of summer 2018 and have our screening in September. This will be the perfect time as it will be the beginning of football season. Stay updated.
